FAMU Band Director Says He Warned University About Dangers of Hazing, But Was Ignored

Robert Champion collapsed in a parking lot outside of a hotel in a Orlando.  He later died at a nearby hospital.  He’d been complaining about not being able to breath and had been vomiting.   White, the band director, was later fired by FAMU President James Ammons.

“I walked into his office and he said, ‘Doc, I don’t know any other way to put it, this is it for you,'” White recounted. “He said ‘you can resign or you can be terminated.'”

White seems to be saying that he was a scapegoat for the death of Champion.  He argues instead that it was the university’s own negligence that led to the death of the student.
